THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON IS COMING!! COME CELEBRATE AT TOPAZ ON JANUARY 28TH AT 7PM

Topaz has been a major supporter of the “Chinese New Year Lion’s Dance” event in Kihei, Maui, for 25 years and still going. Ben Sung Au is the teacher master of this club and brings to Maui the “Lions and Dancers”. We would like to thank him for keeping the Chinese tradition.

Take a look at some of our photos (below) from previous Chinese New Year Celebrations at Maui Topaz! This will help you see what you can expect on the 28th. You don’t want to miss it!

THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT IS COMING TO AN END.
GET READY FOR THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON.

People born the Year of the Dragon are mysterious, extravagant, determined and will make decisions at any cost no matter what the outcome. It will be a very special year full of surprises.

Every year we celebrate, a tradition in the community, and Mama Soo Chen Yao would make all of the food for this event. We all eat together and we have a long friendship together. I have no idea how se ever managed to do this because this year it took me the help of 4 girl friends to make the food. We had potstickers for prosperity, jong za sticky sweet rice wrapped in bamboo leaves with sugar (to remember our past and never forget — the sticky part), and crispy fortune cookies with fortunes inside.

Over 200 people showed up to enjoy the lion dancing and celebrate, which has become a tradition in the community, and to pay respects to my mother, Mama Soo.

The kids had a great time. There were free noise makers and bags for each of them. God bless Ben Sung Au, who brought all six of the lions. It was a night to remember. Mama Soo was very happy.

It is hard to see the old go and the new come. There is happiness and sadness. That is the Ying and Yang of things. We will always remember.
